Chicken With Green Tomato or Murg Hara Tamatar



Preparation Time - 15 -20  mins marination and other preparation work 10 min
Cooking Time - 30 min approx

Ingredients:-

1. Chicken 700 grams
2. Lime - Half of a small Lime
3. Onion - minced 1 and half cup
4. Green Tomato - 1 cup chopped
5. Cilantro or Dhaniya patta or Dhoney pata - 15 to 17 twigs
6. Green Chilly - 1 ( I used Serrano ) you can use Indian green chilly if you like more heat add more.
7. Garlic cloves -5-6 minced
8. White Vinegar - 1 and half tablespoon
9. Sugar - 1 teaspoon
10. Salt - 1 teaspoon + 1 teaspoon (for marination ) or as per your taste
11. Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
12. Cumin powder - half teaspoon
13. Black peppercorns - 1/4 teaspoon
14. Dry roast on a low flame for 40 -50 seconds and grind 1 tablespoon whole Cumin and half tablespoon whole coriander seeds.
15. Oil - 3 tablespoon ( I used sunflower oil ) you can use any oil like vegetable oil/peanut oil.

Preparation:-

1. Marinate the Chicken with lime juice and 1 teaspoon salt or as per your taste.
2. Dry roast the spices as stated in point 14 under ingredients.
3. Chop the Tomato,mince the Garlic and Onion

Let's Cook:-

1. Take an utensil ( I used Non stick ) add about 3 tablespoon of oil and let it warm up and then add the whole black peppercorns followed by garlic.
2. When the Garlic turns light brown add the minced Onion and mix.
3. Fry the onions when it wilts and just begins to turn brown and add the Chicken at this point.Cover and cook mixing intermittently till the Chicken turns slightly white.
4. At this point add the green chopped Tomatoes mix,stir ,cover and cook.Open the lid and stir and continue to stir ,cover and cook till the tomato begins to melt in the gravy.Whenever you open the lid transfer the water collected inside the lid into the gravy and mix it.
5. When the tomato melts add the dry spices that is Coriander and Cumin powder and also the white Vinegar and mix it. You can just add sprinkle of water if the spices starts to burn.
6. When the Chicken is cooked add the salt and sugar and mix well.
7. Lastly add the Cilantro and green chilly along with the dry roasted spices and mix and cover it.Cook for 1-2 minutes and switch off the flame.
8. Let stand for 4-5 minutes and then serve it with garnish of cilantro and green chilly along with Roti,Paratha or Fried Rice.
